After the Lights marks an early exploration of themes that would later develop more fully in Invisible Ties.

Fashion becomes more than adornment; it begins to function as a language through which identity is suggested, questioned and transformed.

Drawing on the visual vocabulary of couture—construction, silhouette, exaggeration and presence—the paintings explore how clothing shapes not only appearance, but the way the body occupies space. Faces dissolve, figures elongate and garments become increasingly architectural, shifting attention from individual identity towards gesture, posture and presence.

Rather than portraying specific people, these works investigate moments of transition. They capture the space between concealment and revelation, performance and authenticity, suggesting that identity is never fixed but continuously negotiated through the body.

These smaller works mark the beginning of my exploration into movement, silhouette and the expressive language of couture. Figures are cropped, anonymised or fragmented, allowing gesture, clothing and composition to speak before identity fully emerges.

Created as studies rather than finished statements, the paintings trace the first development of a visual language that would later evolve into larger, more psychologically layered bodies of work. Even here, the body begins to communicate through posture, rhythm and presence, hinting at questions that would become central to my later practice.
